Iran to Establish Science and Technology Parks in Iraq

The Iranian Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, Hussein Simayi Sarraf, has reportedly expressed Iran’s readiness to collaborate with Iraq in establishing joint science and technology parks, following a request from Iraqi higher education officials to benefit from Iran’s expertise in this field.

According to Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). during a meeting in Tehran with Iraq’s Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Haider Abdul-Zahd, and his accompanying delegation, the two sides emphasized strengthening bilateral scientific relations, particularly in areas related to university students, research, and technology.

Highlights from the Meeting:

  1. Collaboration on Science Parks:
    • Minister Sarraf affirmed Iran’s preparedness to create joint science and technology parks in Iraq.
    • Iraq has drawn inspiration from Iran’s experience, leading to the approval of relevant legislation in the Iraqi Parliament.
  2. Educational Exchange:
    • Iran expressed interest in welcoming more Iraqi students, particularly in its prominent universities located in provinces bordering Iraq.
    • Iraq proposed the reciprocal acceptance of Iranian students in Iraqi universities and the allocation of 100 scholarships for Iranian students.
  3. Language and Cultural Integration:
    • The deputy minister emphasized the importance of Iraqi students learning Persian to deepen their understanding of Iranian culture and knowledge.
  4. Joint University Initiatives:
    • Both sides explored collaborative opportunities, with plans to finalize agreements during a joint meeting of Iranian and Iraqi universities scheduled to take place in Karbala.
  5. Future Cooperation:
    • The Iraqi delegation extended an invitation to the Iranian Minister of Science to attend the Karbala meeting, underscoring the commitment to further solidifying ties in education and technology.
