The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, Mr. Adnan Muhammad Hamoud, confirmed that the ministry is proceeding with implementing its strategic plans within the government program, which aims to develop the refining sector, maximize national production of oil derivatives, and secure local consumption and export the surplus,
pointing out that the sector enjoys great interest and support from the Prime Minister, Eng. Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, and the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Eng. Hayan Abdul-Ghani al-Sawad, this came during his visit to the Maysan Refinery, today, Monday.
The Undersecretary announced the establishment of a new unit with international specifications (Euro 5) with a capacity of 70 thousand barrels per day, which contributes to raising the refinery’s production capacity to 110 thousand barrels per day, indicating that this will largely secure the need of Maysan Governorate and neighboring governorates for oil derivatives.
Hamoud pointed out that the expansion and development project includes the establishment of complementary units, including a gasoline hydrogenation and improvement unit, an FCC unit, a gas oil unit, and a white oil unit, in addition to environmentally friendly service units, stressing the importance of the refinery in securing part of the local market’s need for petroleum derivatives and its support for various industrial sectors.
Mr. Al-Wakil called on the refinery workers to intensify efforts to ensure the stability of the production process and the smooth flow of petroleum products, noting that the refinery is one of the main refineries in the Southern Refineries Company, with a current capacity of 40,000 barrels per day.
Mr. Al-Wakil chaired a meeting, attended by the Director of the Foreign Refineries Production Authority, the Director of the Refinery, the Deputy Director, department officials, and a number of engineering staff, to review the progress of work and discuss mechanisms for implementing development plans. The visit included inspecting the production and technical units and meeting with workers.
