Iraq pushes EU to lift Ban on Iraqi Airways

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met on Sunday with a delegation from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), led by Kamel Al-Awadi, IATA’s Vice President.

The discussions focused on Iraq’s ongoing efforts to end the European Union’s airspace ban on Iraqi Airways, as well as the progress of the government’s corrective action plan.

The meeting also covered modernisation initiatives within Iraqi Airways, including the automation of operations, capacity building, and service enhancements for both passenger and cargo transport.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani reaffirmed his commitment to lifting the EU ban, emphasising the government’s continuous oversight of the specialised committee handling the matter. He stressed the importance of aligning Iraqi Airways’ operations with international aviation standards while simultaneously improving its infrastructure.

Vice President Al-Awadi noted that Iraq has achieved 56% completion of its corrective action plan, indicating that progress is on track according to the project’s established timeline.
