The two-day Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Iraq 2025 concluded on Sunday, marking the country’s first national forum held under the umbrella of the United Nations.
The opening session, titled “Internet Governance in Iraq,” was moderated by Laith Al-Jazaeri and featured Dr. Hayam Al-Yasiri, Minister of Communications, as guest speaker.
Day two included two major discussion sessions: “Digital Content in Iraq,” which examined the role of digital content in the economy, culture, and public life, with a focus on supporting creators and platforms for a more sustainable environment; and, “Women’s Safety in the Digital Space,” which addressed challenges ranging from privacy and security to digital violence, hate speech, and barriers to women’s participation.
Workshops also covered “How Google Implements Protection Mechanisms Within Generative Artificial Intelligence” and “Best Practices for Content Creators.“
The forum concluded with remarks from Aws Al-Saadi, founder and president of Tech4Peace, who stressed that convening IGF Iraq 2025 represented a shared responsibility and collective message uniting government, the private sector, and civil society.
