UK-based Bremesgraf has supplied an advanced bird deterrent system at Basra International Airport, as part of efforts to enhance aviation safety standards in line with modern airport operational requirements.
The system was installed with support from the Basra local government and in coordination with the Ministry of Transport’s Iraqi Airports Administration.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the system is designed to reduce the risks posed by birds to aircraft safety, particularly during take-off and landing. It operates via an advanced radar system to monitor bird movements, alongside an integrated deterrence suite that includes:
- Ultrasonic wave technology
- Laser devices
- Propane acoustic cannons
- Warning markers
The airport stated that bird deterrent systems are used in major international airports worldwide due to their role in improving aviation safety and reducing the likelihood of bird-strike incidents.
