Iraq, UK discuss Investment, Energy and Partnership Agreement

The Iraqi Embassy in London has held a virtual meeting with the Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC) to discuss strengthening economic and investment relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi led the meeting, which covered a range of topics including:

  • Recent political developments in Iraq, including the forthcoming completion of the new government’s formation
  • The Iraq-UK Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which is pending ratification, with a specialised committee established within the Office of the Prime Minister to oversee its implementation
  • Potential cooperation with UK Export Finance (UKEF)
  • The resumption of direct flights between Iraq and the UK
  • Iraqi oil exports and Iraq-Türkiye relations
  • Transport, energy and maritime cooperation projects
  • A possible memorandum of understanding between the Iraqi Ministry of Transport and the Iraq Britain Business Council

The Embassy was represented by Counsellor Amer Abdulhussein Al-Fatlawi and Counsellor Atheer Abood Alsaedy. The Iraq Britain Business Council was represented by Managing Director Christophe Michels and a number of Council members.
