The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation on Friday to discuss regional developments and bilateral relations.
During the call, Secretary Rubio emphasised the strong partnership between the United States and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region in expanding business opportunities, promoting regional stability and strengthening democracy.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of immediately reopening the Iraq-Türkiye Pipeline (ITP), which they deemed crucial for protecting past US investments and attracting future investment to the region. The pipeline is a key route for oil exports from the Kurdistan Region.
Secretary Rubio expressed America’s appreciation for the Kurdistan Region’s role as a safe haven for ethnic and religious communities and its contribution to maintaining stability and security in the region.
The conversation concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain contact and coordinate efforts to protect common interests, whilst continuing to strengthen the friendship and alliance between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.
