Iraq-Oman Business Forum highlights Investment Opportunities
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani attended the Iraq-Oman Business Forum in Salalah on Thursday, accompanied by his ministerial delegation.
He praised the organisers, noting that the visit lays the groundwork for genuine cooperation between the two countries, following the signing of 24 memoranda of understanding and two agreements across multiple sectors. Al-Sudani underlined the wide scope of investment opportunities available for Iraqi businessmen in Oman, as well as the role of Omani companies in Iraq’s development drive.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of leveraging opportunities amid global economic competition, highlighting the role of the private sector in both countries and the government’s backing through legislation, regulatory reforms, and reduced bureaucracy.
He also emphasised the government’s sovereign guarantees covering up to 85% of investment project values, improvements in the investment climate, and the significant untapped natural resources in Iraq, particularly sulphur and phosphates. He noted Iraq’s annual imports currently stand at $70 billion, reinforcing the importance of economic reform and domestic development.
