Public-Private Coordination Targets Expansion of Cement Production

Measures to support Iraq’s cement industry and enhance self-sufficiency have been discussed at a meeting between the Ministry of Industry and Minerals and private sector operators.

The meeting, chaired by Industry Minister Khaled Battal Al-Najm, brought together representatives of clinker grinding plants and cement producers, alongside officials from the State Company for Iraqi Cement and the Iraqi Industrial Council.

Discussions focused on securing sufficient clinker supplies to meet rising domestic demand and support production across private sector facilities.

Key topics included:

  • Assessment of current grinding plant capacity and production levels
  • Proposals from private sector operators to improve supply chains
  • Mechanisms to ensure consistent availability of clinker
  • Coordination to stabilise production and increase operational capacity

The Ministry emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors to address bottlenecks and ensure steady clinker supply, supporting cement production for ongoing and planned reconstruction projects.
