Businessman Nominated as New Iraqi PM

Ali Al-Zaidi [Al-Zaydi] has been tasked with forming a new government in Iraq, following a formal ceremony at Baghdad Palace. 

President Nizar Amedi made the designation, describing it as reflecting a commitment to the constitution in both letter and spirit. Speaking at the ceremony, he said: “The interests of Iraq stand above all considerations – this is the standard that guides every step we take.

The President called on political forces to support the Prime Minister-designate and engage constructively to expedite the formation of an effective national government capable of delivering a comprehensive reform programme focused on improving services, strengthening the economy, and upholding justice and the rule of law.

The ceremony was attended by Speaker of Parliament Haibat Al-Halbousi, President of the Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan, and a number of leaders from the Coordination Framework.

According to The New Region, Al-Zaidi is the director of Al-Janoob Islamic Bank, CEO of Dijlah TV, and owner of the Taawon Hypermarket shopping centers in Baghdad.

A New Government in Motion: President Amedi Tasks Al-Zaydi with Forming the Cabinet

In a formal ceremony at Baghdad Palace, President Nizar Amedi tasked Ali Al-Zaydi, nominee of the largest parliamentary bloc, with forming the new government.

The ceremony was attended by Speaker of Parliament Haibat Al-Halbousi, President of the Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan, as well as a number of leaders from the Coordination Framework.

During the ceremony, President Amedi affirmed that the designation reflects a commitment to the Constitution in both letter and spirit, describing it as the beginning of a process he hopes will culminate in success. “The interests of Iraq stand above all considerations-this is the standard that guides every step we take,” he said, stressing the need to move forward with determination toward building a just, capable, and unified state in which citizens enjoy security, dignity, and prosperity. 

The President noted that achieving stability is a shared responsibility that can only be realized through partnership and prioritizing the national interest. He called on political forces to support the Prime Minister-designate and engage constructively to expedite the formation of an effective national government that represents all Iraqis and is capable of delivering a comprehensive reform program focused on improving services, strengthening the economy, and upholding justice and the rule of law.

President Amedi also expressed his wishes for the Prime Minister-designate’s success in forming a government that meets the aspirations of the Iraqi people and reinforces the country’s sovereignty and stability.

Ali Al-Zaydi expressed his appreciation for the President’s confidence and his commitment to completing this constitutional process within its prescribed timeframe. He affirmed his determination to work with all political forces to form a government that responds to citizens’ demands, strengthens security and stability, and advances comprehensive development.
